The District Bus-Minibus Owners Association has called for an indefinite strike demanding the release of Ali Akbar Rajan, Joint General Secretary and Joint Secretary of the Divisional Committee of Sylhet District Bus-Minibus Workers Union. This strike will be observed in Sylhet district from 6 am tomorrow Monday.

Sylhet District Bus Owners Association president Moinul Islam announced the strike on Sunday afternoon.

Moinul Islam said, Ali Akbar holds an important position in the association. In his absence the work of the office has come to a standstill. After his arrest, there have been repeated applications for his bail. A memorandum has even been given by the association to the concerned authorities including the divisional commissioner. Still, as he was not bailed, this strike was called. He also said that this indefinite strike will continue in Sylhet district from Monday morning. A strike will be called at the departmental level if necessary to demand his release.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police arrested the accused Ali Akbar on the arrest warrant of a case from Surma Market area of ??Sylhet city at around 11:30 on December 7. Along with the labor union, he is serving as the joint general secretary of the Sylhet District Chhatra Dal.

After the arrest, Sylhet Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ali Mahmud said, Ali Akbar Rajon was arrested as an accused in a 2018 arson case as part of regular police operations. There are several cases against him in the police station.
